Wanted: Fingerprint Removal Surgeon

found by troym

The charges conspiring to distribute marijuana and being an accomplice and accessory after the fact to marijuana dealing stem from surgery he performed on a Jamaican man to replace his fingerprints with skin from his feet...

...In an interview after his arrest, Covarrubias admitted that he performed the fingerprint procedure on five people, including his co-defendant, and that he was aware that all of them were wanted by the law, Ballou said.

Interesting...You would think people wouldn't want to help criminals escape, neverless helping them be fingerprint free. Fingerprints are a huge break! cbt

This is unsettling; it just goes to show how far some people will go for money. God knows what some criminals could get away with without fingerprints! Imagine what could have happened had this surgeon performed the surgery on a serial killer instead of a marijuana dealer.

while this may have been a big deal years ago, it seems like there are enough other ways to identify a person that a lack of fingerprints could be overcome.

plus, wouldn't not having fingerprints be pretty suspicious?!

This is interesting. I wonder who came up with the idea of the swtiching of the fingerprints. I think the technique used was a bit extreme for the case at hand. I guess money can buy you just about anything. I wonder how much he was paid. lns

It's a little much to remove your prints. I saw on one of the forensic shows where a guy removed his fingerprints and then replaced them in a jumbled fashion. The forensic team put them together digitally like a jigsaw puzzle. Very freaky! ddb

you'd think if you replaced your fingerprints, you wouldn't just jumble them up!

but then again you lower the risk of skin graft rejects.

I thought about burning mine off, but apparently they actually come back after a while. Instead, with the help of a friend and lots of painkillers, mind you, I made incisions in all of my fingertips with an exacto knife and rubbed lye crystals into my fingertips.
The result is a thoroughly destroyed fingerprint.

I'm not a serial killer or a drug dealer or even a thief, I just ride freight trains, something that ought to be legal in the first place, and it's nice to not have a fingerprint in their system when I get picked up by some ***hole yard cop.

P.S.
It hurts really really really bad for about 3 weeks.

Reading these kind of posts reminds me of just how technology truly is ever-permeating in this day and age, and I am fairly certain that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory drops, the possibility of transferring our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I dream about all the time.
