Male Contraception, Forensic Concern?

by blogger jgl

Well, i guess it's a stretch to say that rapists would use this pill to hide sperm, since DNA can still be obtained. I don't know... Professionals, does lack of sperm make it difficult to get a profile? Still, presence of sperm is an issue in forensics, so i guess this is worth noting.

A contraceptive pill for men could be a step closer according to a study in male fertility.

But a study has found that men actually regain their full potential within a few months when treatment with the drug is stopped.

Up until now, the only long-term option for male contraception has been the vasectomy.

I believe that the male contraception is doing to cause a very big problem among the society. This is just giving rapist another way to commit a horrible crime and get away with it. Because when someone think about a rape incident the first that comes to mind is the DNA from the man. The world has enough unfinished problems as it is. I see this causing more murders because for women to find out about this and that a potential rapist may have taken this pill leaving no DNA for the law to convict him on. Many women I believe will start to arm themselves. Then what, are they going to press charges on the women for defending themselves? tjw

Well, it is true that this could be an aid... but the benefit to law abiding citizens should be weighed against the amount of crime increase (or conviction decrease). In the end, most criminals don't think out their crimes that much (plus, hopefully this will require a prescription), so hopefully it won't be much of a problem.

the drug may create another piece of evidence. If the drug can be found in semen, then individuals with prescriptions could be targeted.

eh, it's a longshot.

It is doubtful that many men would commit themselves to taking oral contraception for any purpose. Most methods of contraception are safer for men to take on, but for the most part, they leave it to the ladies. I doubt this pill will be much trouble. FM-JS110

FM - if there is anyone lazier than the typical man, it is the typical male criminal. you're probably right - they wouldn't go through the trouble.
